Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Client Owned and OXEN Owned firewall management?

The management work is the same: monitoring, firmware updates, configuration changes, security services, reporting, and vulnerability testing. The difference is hardware ownership. With Client Owned, you provide the firewall and handle licensing and replacement when needed. With OXEN Owned, we own the hardware and replace it at end-of-life. 

What's included in the management service?

Up/down monitoring, firmware updates, configuration changes as needed, gateway antivirus, intrusion prevention, anti-spyware, geo-IP filtering, content filtering, monthly automated reporting, and quarterly external vulnerability testing. 

What's not included?

Firewall hardware purchase, replacement, and licensing are your responsibility. Whitelist-only content filtering, application control, deep packet inspection for SSL, and high availability are available as billable add-ons. If troubleshooting reveals the root cause is outside the firewall (ISP issues, switching problems), that work is billed separately. Initial firewall deployment and hardware refresh are also not included. 

How is this priced?

Per-firewall, recurring monthly. The fee covers monitoring, management, security services configuration, reporting, and vulnerability testing. Hardware, licensing, and replacement costs remain the client's responsibility. 

What firewall brands do you support?

OXEN manages SonicWall and Fortinet firewalls. Your existing hardware needs to be a supported, currently licensed business-class appliance with active vendor support. Reach out to confirm compatibility before starting the engagement. 

What happens when my firewall reaches end-of-life?

Since you own the hardware, replacement is your responsibility. We'll notify you as end-of-life approaches and can help scope the replacement. If you'd prefer OXEN to own future hardware, transitioning to the OXEN Owned model is an option - that conversation usually happens at refresh time. 

Can I upgrade to OXEN Owned management later?

Yes. If you'd rather have OXEN own and maintain the hardware going forward, we can transition you to the OXEN Owned model. That's typically done at hardware refresh time to make the transition clean.
